Former Secretary of National Defense, Gilberto Eduardo Gerardo “Gibo” Conjuangco Teodoro, Jr. was born to Gilberto Teodoro, Sr. and Mercedes Cojuangco on the 14th of June, 1964. He is an only child and is Noynoy’s second cousin. Their mothers are first cousins, their fathers being brothers.
He went to Xavier School for his primary and secondary education. He went to De La Salle University – Manila for his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. He went to the University of the Philippines and took up law and Harvard Law School for Master of Laws.
After practicing as a lawyer for several years in EP Mendoza. A year later, he was elected as the Representative of the First District of Tarlac. He served for three consecutive terms before his wife, Nikki Prieto-Teodoro, replaced him. In the same year as his last in his third term, he was appointed Defense Secretary. He is the presidential standard bearer of Lakas-Kampi-CMD in the 2010 Presidential Elections.
Despite close blood relations with Noynoy, their families were never on the same political side. Gilberto Sr. was Ferdinand Marcos’ Social Security System Administrator and Ninoy was with the opposition.
Gibo has done well for himself. He is a distinguished member of several association in UP and Harvard. He is not only a lawyer, he is a commercial pilot as well and a Philippine Air Force Reserve Colonel. He and Nikki have one son together, Jaime Gilberto.
